RPS Motorsport Monday!

#TeamRPS are delighted to share that our very own Simon Ayris partnered by a long-term friend, colleague, and co-driver, Kim Bannister, netted a commanding win in the first round of this year's Hero Challenge.

The morning started off well for Simon and Kim, with steady progress on the regularities before pushing hard over the four tests before lunch, setting the fastest times in the MGB class. At lunch, the crew found themselves 2nd overall before returning to a rerun of the morning's tests.

Heading back to the tests after lunch and glancing at the results before leaving Simon said, “I waited for the right moment in the car and said to Kim - pressure is on now Mr Bannister, we are 2nd overall!” With a look at each other across the car, a stony silence fell as they turned in to start the tests again!

Simon attacked the tests again at the brilliant MOD Bovington Camp venue, desperate to consolidate their position setting the fastest times in their class again, meaning all they had to do was have a good run on the remaining three regularities.

With a clean run on the last regularities, there was a knowing fist bump between them at the final timing point as they knew they had done enough - this effort elevated the duo to a very well-earned 1st overall.

Simon said - “after all the events we have done side by side I always knew we would do it at some point, but having started the rally totally relaxed and with no expectation whatsoever, I think that helped, as a great friend from the ERA said to me many years ago and stays with me always - some days your ducks are up!”

“It also goes without saying that the great efforts that our friends at Hero Era Rally put into these events make them stand out as a great days sport for everyone, but the biggest thanks has to always go out to the many marshals who make these events actually work!”

#TeamRPS - Team work makes the dream work!
