ABOUT THIS CAR
Rally Preparation Services is pleased to offer this 2019 built 1939 Chevrolet “Fangio” Coupe which has just finished the 2019 Peking to Paris Motor Challenge in 8th place.
As Chevrolet battled with Ford for market dominance in the 30’s, the Coupe was aimed squarely at the travelling salesman. With just two doors and a large boot to carry samples it was one of the most important models in the Chevrolet line up. For 1939, Chevrolet revised the front grille with a more secure radiator fixing (great for rally cars) re-positioned the head lamps on to the front wings and a changed the body to provide a slightly larger rear cabin.
Fangio chose the Chevrolet to compete in the Argentine Turismo Carretera (literally “Road Touring) race series. The races which had more in common with rallies than races took place over unmade roads over great distances. Fangio won the series in 1940 and 1941 as the Chevrolet proved to be more robust than the Fords. It was his idea to cut away the wings and also re-route the exhaust which give these cars their distinctive identity.
RPS were commissioned to build this car by the vendor to our latest specification for the 2019 Peking to Paris rally. The build involves removing the body from the chassis to install new suspension components and restoration of the bodywork as well as all the other magic we do! With just one rally under its wheels this Fangio is a rare opportunity to acquire an almost new yet proven potential winner.
